The City of Edinburg broke ground on Phase 1 of the Veteran’s Detention Pond Drainage Conveyance and Street Improvement Project on Rojas, Santa Maria, and Thompson Street today, Thursday August 12, 2021.

The project is being funded by a $30M bond for drainage improvements that was approved by Edinburg citizens during the November 2018 election. City of Edinburg has since been working diligently on flood relief and street improvements for its residents throughout the city.

Improvements from Phase 1 of this project will include approximately 3,600-ft of paved road with curb & gutters, 2,800-ft of storm line and 18 inlets for those three streets. The seventy-four residences in the area, which are currently on a septic system, will also be upgraded and connected to the city’s sanitary sewer system.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by June 2022. Phase 2 will include a detention pond that will benefit the residents in the surrounding area. Detention ponds provide a place for water to be stored while a storm event occurs, providing relief to all drainage systems.
