Brownsville, Texas – Warriors United in Arms, a Brownsville veterans group will be hosting a benefit dance to raise funds for the continued assistance they provide to local area veterans.
A Veteran’s Day benefit dance will be held on Sunday, November 11th from 8 pm till midnight at the Amigoland Event Center located at 1010 Mexico Blvd in Brownsville. Guests will be treated to the exciting sounds of award-winning Tejano artist, Marcos Orozco who will be the featured entertainer along with the fabulous sounds of DJ Gilbert Fasal.
Dancing and having a good time is certainly encouraged at this event all the while raising funds for a great cause to support an organization of caring veterans and their spouses who believe in “Veterans helping Veterans”. Over 700 attendees are expected.
The funds raised will go towards many continued efforts that include providing funds to cover emergency burial costs; wheelchairs, walkers, hospital items and clothing for veterans unable to afford them; for travel expenses and transportation to receive medical treatment at out-of-town medical facilities as far away as Houston; money for utilities, food and groceries to Veterans and Veteran’s widows in need; as well as collect and donate monies and supplies to various relief efforts such as for the community of Rockport, Texas that suffered greatly during Hurricane Harvey.
Stated Mr. Tony Garcia President of the group, “We are a small group and we don’t receive outside funding. So, we count on the generosity of the community to support our fundraisers so that monies we raise can allow us to continue in providing the greatly needed services our veterans need.” The event will also serve to raise funds in acquiring a building in Brownsville that will serve as a place for Veterans to come and gain assistance.
The city of Brownsville has offered a location however the Warriors are responsible for some of the building cost. Per Mr. Victor Savala, with the Warriors, “We need to have a facility where Veterans can come and gain information on services and benefits or just to come have a cup of coffee and be with other Veterans who understand what they’ve been through.” Health Fairs and other events are also being planned to be held at the facility and that can serve the local community.
The Warriors are also the guardians of the last American Flag to fly over the American Embassy in Saigon, South Vietnam. The flag was rescued from a hostile mob who were trying to destroy it and was given to the Warriors to protect, preserve and tell the story of the 55,448 lives that were lost in the conflict. Plans are to also permanently house the flag in the same building.
