BROWNSVILLE, Texas– The City on the Border, by the Sea, and Beyond, now has its first Mobility Transportation Plan as Brownsville continues to nurture its thriving community. The Brownsville CityCommission recently unanimously adopted the Brownsville Mobility Plan (BTX Mobility Plan) in an effort to support the City’s continued growth and enhance mobility including Bike, Pedestrian, Bus Transit, Airport, Road and intelligent infrastructure systems for the benefit of its current and future residents and businesses.
The groundbreaking BTX Mobility Plan is designed to serve as a roadmap for the City, guiding the development of safe, efficient, and effective transportation systems that promote the welfare of our community.

“Our Citywide Mobility Plan is a pivotal step towards ensuring our future by planning for complete streets,bicycle lanes, trails, transit, pedestrian safety and emerging technology,” said Helen Ramirez, AICP,Brownsville City Manager. “Brownsville continues to experience significant growth in both residential andcommercial sectors, along with a steady increase in population. This plan that will help ensure that we plan for safe and appropriate infrastructure as we grow our City, which currently benefits from 15-minute travel times.

The BTX Mobility Plan encompasses a comprehensive set of recommendations, addressing various modes of transportation, including:
- Roadways: The plan outlines strategies for the expansion and improvement of road networks to accommodate increased traffic and provide more convenient and efficient access across the City.
- Transit Systems: It emphasizes the need for improved public transit options, ensuring that residents have reliable, accessible, and affordable means of transportation within the City.
- Bicycle and Pedestrian Infrastructure: Prioritizing safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians, the plan promotes the development of bike lanes, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, and multi-use paths.
