MCALLEN, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol will be hosting this year’s second “Head of the Class” Awards Ceremony to honor high school seniors who demonstrate exemplary character and determination to succeed. The keynote speaker will be Texas State Representative Oscar Longoria.
The Head of the Class Program is an award to recognize high achieving scholars from 34 Independent School Districts located throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The students are nominated by their respective school counselor and submitted to the RGV Sector Border Patrol. Recipients will be recognized bi-monthly throughout this academic school year.
This event will lead to RGV Sector’s 10th year anniversary of the “Youth of the Year” Award. Various organizations and community leaders will collaborate with the Border Patrol to honor the Youth of the Year winners with a ceremonial meal and monetary scholarship donation that will be presented during the Youth of the Year Ceremony.
