EDINBURG, Texas –Rio Grande Valley Sector agents disrupted three narcotics smuggling attempts near the Hidalgo, Starr County line.
Wednesday morning, McAllen agents working in Los Ebanos, Texas, observed five subjects carrying bundles of narcotics. The smugglers abandoned the bundles after they observed agents on horseback approaching the area. The smugglers successfully fled south into Mexico. Agents recovered five bundles consisting of 20 individual bricks of marijuana that weighed a total of 230 pounds and have an approximate value of $184K.
A short while later, Rio Grande City agents working near La Grulla, Texas, were advised of possible alien smuggling activity near the Rio Grande. Agents, with the assistance of service K9, tracked down a group of subjects. Upon encounter, agents discovered the subjects were carrying bundles of narcotics. Agents apprehended three subjects and two bundles of narcotics. The three suspects were found to be illegally present in the US. The two bundles of marijuana weighed 115 pounds and are valued at $92K. The Starr County HIDTA task force took custody of the narcotics and two subjects. Border Patrol is processing the third subject accordingly.
This morning, agents working in La Joya, Texas, observed multiple subjects approach Military Highway with bundles of marijuana. The smugglers abandoned their contraband and the Aerostat blimp observed them crossing into Mexico on an awaiting raft. The abandoned bundles weighed 114 pounds and are valued at nearly $92K.
