The project began on October 23, 2013 when world renowned artist, Edmund Rabanser, completed the drawings of the statue in Ortisei, Italy. “We are elated to see such an amazing project come to completion.
And we are overwhelmed with the support of our patrons to make this possible”, Father Amador Garza states.
“The Welcome Plaza will be landmark to the grounds of the Basilica, a place of reflection and prayer and a beautiful addition to the City of San Juan and the community as a whole.”
The National Conference of Catholic Bishops designated Our Lady of San Juan del Valle a National Shrine on March 24, 1998, and the following year on June 12, 1999 Pope John Paul II designated it as a minor Basilica.
