After the regular legislative session ended in May, Abbott vetoed a section of the state budget that funds the Legislature, including salaries and benefits of 2,100 employees, as punishment for a walkout House Democrats orchestrated to prevent passage of a controversial election bill.

On Thursday, August 12, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas will be in South Texas to receive operational updates and engage with the DHS frontline workforce.  While in South Texas, Secretary Mayorkas will meet with local officials and community leaders.  Additional details will be announced in the coming days.

Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation announcing that he will convene a second special legislative session at 12:00 p.m. on August 7, 2021. The proclamation identifies 17 agenda items for the second Special Session.
