Arrest made Following Vehicle Pursuit in Edinburg

On November 3, at approximately 11:59 am it was reported that there were a male and female stealing flat-screen TVs from Walmart at 1724 W University Dr. The male, later identified as Edgar Villanueva was observed leaving the store in a blue Kia Rio without paying for the merchandise. The female, later identified as Trisha Val Verde was observed as the driver of the Kia Rio.

An Edinburg Police Officer found that Kia Rio at the First Cash Pawnshop at 3501 W University Dr. The officer observed Edgar Villanueva pawning the TV’s and arrested Edgar. When the officer attempted to detain the driver, Trisha Val Verde, she fled the scene in the Kia Rio.

At this point, a vehicle pursuit engaged. The speed of the Kia Rio was recorded over 90 mph going North on Mon Mack Rd. The officers made several attempts to pull the vehicle over, using overhead lights and sirens however, the vehicle continued to flee at high rates of speed. Eventually, the driver, Trisha Val Verde lost control of the vehicle going West on Trenton Rd, just West of Ware Rd. Not realizing the vehicle was immobile, Trisha continued to try and turn the keys in the ignition to start the car in an attempt to leave again.

Assisted by Texas Highway Patrol, Officers were able to pull Trisha out of the vehicle and arrest her for Evading.

During a vehicle search of Trisha’s vehicle, more merchandise known to be stolen from Walmart was recovered, along with 3 TV’s.

Trisha was also found to be in the possession of a dangerous drug, possession of the controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

This was a successful arrest made by the Edinburg Police Officers. There were no reported injuries and no reported accidents or other damages during the vehicle pursuit. Almost all of the merchandise stolen was recovered and returned.
