July 6, 2025 – Governor Greg Abbott held a press conference at the State Operations Center in Austin to provide an update on the state’s ongoing response to the severe flooding that continues to impact parts of Texas. He urged residents to remain alert, as heavy rainfall is forecast to persist across several regions, including the Big Country, Concho Valley, Central Texas, and Kerr County.
“Governor Abbott Provides Update on State’s Ongoing Response to Severe Flooding in Texas,” the Office of the Governor announced, underscoring the state’s continued mobilization in the face of ongoing weather threats. “Urges Texans to Remain Weather Aware as Heavy Rain Continues,” the statement added, calling attention to the persistent risk of flash flooding.
“I had the opportunity yesterday to visit Camp Mystic to see firsthand what happened there,” Governor Abbott said during the press conference. “It was nothing short of horrific.” The Governor’s visit followed the July 4 flooding disaster that struck the area surrounding Camp Mystic in Kerr County, resulting in numerous fatalities and extensive damage.
“We’re here in Austin today because there have been lives lost in this greater region. We are broadening the area that we’re focused on, but we are not reducing our focus in the Kerrville area,” Abbott said. He warned that the next 24 to 48 hours could bring further public safety threats as more rain is expected.
Abbott reiterated a key message used by state emergency officials: “If there’s any water on the road, the most important thing you can do is to protect your lives. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
The Governor emphasized that Texas continues to operate 24/7 through coordinated efforts among state and local agencies. Search and rescue missions are still underway, particularly in areas hardest hit by the storms. He reminded Texans to stay updated through official weather alerts and to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-affected regions.
The state government’s response is being continuously evaluated and adjusted as weather patterns develop. Governor Abbott’s office confirmed that all available resources are being deployed to support rescue, recovery, and relief across impacted communities.
