PHARR – Sporting iconic t-shirts and various decade attire, over 800 runners and community members participated in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD’s first 5K/10K held at PSJA Stadium on Saturday, Nov 16, 2019.

The race was one of several events planned to celebrate the district’s 100-year legacy during the 2019-2020 school year. It was possible thanks to a partnership with local company Athletic Collective, LLC and the City of Pharr.

In addition to runners from across the Rio Grande Valley, hundreds of PSJA ISD students, parents, staff, and alumni attended the inaugural race.

Many PSJA ISD groups such as the Santos Livas Elementary Running Club participated in the PSJA ISD Centennial 5K/10K.

“It was an honor to join everybody in the run,” said PSJA Southwest ECHS Custodian Ruben Granados who ran the event with his two sons who attend PSJA ISD schools.  “It was awesome to see everyone running together as a family.”

The PSJA Centennial 5K/10K is the third of several events and activities that will take place during the school year to celebrate the district’s Centennial.

According to PSJA Communications Director Arianna Vazquez-Hernandez, this was the first event of its kind hosted by the district.

“I’d like to thank all the team members, partners, and families who made this inaugural race possible,” said Vazquez-Hernandez. “It was awesome to see our PSJA Family go on this special run down memory lane. We hope we can continue this tradition for years to come.”

The next Centennial event hosted by PSJA ISD will be its PSJA Family Posada happening Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at the PSJA Administration Building grounds located at 601 E. Kelly St. in Pharr.

This free event will feature delicious festive foods, fun games, a marketplace and a special performance by PSJA Alumna & Tejano Singer Sarah Monique accompanied by the PSJA Early College High School Mariachi.
