What else can we say about this extraordinary couple. Bob and Janet Vackar have gone beyond their call of duty. They have exceeded any philanthropic activity normally seen here in the Valley. A tough call to answer or to follow, nevertheless the doors are open for anyone else who has their heart in the right place.

Bob and Janet have been very generous with this community, for those that know the golden rule of life, they will be blessed in every aspect. They will receive in return for their investment 100 fold, it is a written promise.

Originally when this reporter was invited to the 11th floor of the Compass Bank to hear the announcement about Janet and Bob Vackar becoming the Border Texans of the Year, it was indeed great news.

The couple is well respected in every community of the Rio Grande Valley. Their expansion plans in business are also a blessing for the communities where they do business.

The selection of a couple in business for the first time and the selection of a new venue as to where to celebrate the Vackar’s, made this event very special. All of us will remember for years to come this great moment.

On another matter, banking veteran, community leader and founding president and CEO of IBC Bank-Brownsville, Fred Rusteberg, announced his retirement. His transition from CEO into retirement began last month in February and he will officially step down at the end of August.

TASTE MCALLEN will be hosted on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
