Edcouch Elsa High School is one of 15 finalists in a nationwide grant competition sponsored by Farmers Insurance. The Dream Big Challenge will award a $100,000 grant to the top vote getters in 5 regions across the Unites States. Edcouch Elsa math teacher Rohny Escareño submitted a student, teacher and community based project and was selected as the sole finalist from Texas.

Edcouch Elsa is a close-knit community, committed to overcoming challenges and providing opportunities. The project taps into that spirit and brings together students, families, teachers and community partners to address the physical, emotional, social and academic needs. The project will help to leverage resources to provide much needed social services and a student well-being fund that will assist with basic needs including food, clothing, shelter, and financial hardship. Teachers will develop an innovative advisory and mentoring initiative that offers academic, social, and post-secondary support. Teachers will also have professional development, curriculum, materials and resources for the implementation of the project. The community will be invited to listen, learn and share in the development of programs and services for the betterment of students and schools.
