Yadi & Fred Robles of Rio Valley Meat are giving back to the community by partnering with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hidalgo County to provide services to victims of child abuse.
Robles chose the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hidalgo County to be the recipient of the $8,500 he won when he participated in the Cooking for Kids program. This program is a points race sponsored by Big Poppa Smokers where top BBQ teams from across the nation compete to raise dollars for children’s charities. BBQ competition is Robles passion and he says “I want to change the world one brisket at a time.”
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Hidalgo County, a nonprofit 501c3 established in 2000 is one of 800 centers nationwide, 71 in Texas. The Center, dedicated to providing Hope, Healing and Justice to victims of child abuse, is the only one of its kind in Hidalgo and Starr Counties.
Child abuse and neglect are not an isolated occurrence. It happens every single day in our own community, it may even be happening to a child you know. We believe that no child should ever be subjected to the pain of abuse or the lasting emotional trauma it leaves behind. In FY2018, the Center provided services to 1618 child abuse victims and their non-offending family members.
Working with Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services and the District Attorney’s Office, a multidisciplinary approach is taken to coordinate all departments involved in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. Our number one goal is to provide children with a safe environment.

- Child Forensic Evaluations and Assessments
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
- Crisis Intervention
- Mental Health Services
- Prevention Education and Outreach Programs
