Workforce Solutions and Hidalgo County Announce 85 temporary Positions for Residents Impacted by May and June Floods

EDINBURG − Workforce Solutions has joined forces with Hidalgo County to recruit individuals to work in 85 temporary positions available locally with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant provides $1.5 million in wages to be paid.

The Workforce Solutions Office in Edinburg is taking applications online at WFsolutions.org and in person for the temporary jobs with FEMA. Staff at the Workforce Solutions Centers will process applicants to verify that applicants meet the job specific requirements. Priority will be given to residents affected by the floods that occurred between May 4 and June 19, 2015.

The positions available are:

          7 Heavy Equipment Operators – minimum 2 years experience

          7 Truck Drivers – minimum 5 years experience

          71 Maintenance Workers- lift and move more than 25 lbs.

FEMA routinely offers employment to residents in disaster areas to support the local economy and provide jobs to those who may have lost employment due to the disaster.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older, have a High School Diploma or GED and have a driver’s license. Individuals will be required to pass a drug test.

The Workforce Solutions Centers will process applicants to determine their eligibility for the program.

There are 3 priorities of eligible applicants:

1) Lost their job because of the flooding disaster (May 4 – June 19, 2015).

2) Unemployed and receiving Unemployment Insurance due to the flooding disaster. 

3) Unemployed and has stopped receiving Unemployment Insurance – this does not have to be related to the flooding disaster.
