Woodley Advances to NCAA Track & Field Quarterfinals

COLLEGE STATION – Freshman Tamara Woodley qualified for the quarterfinals in the 400-meter dash to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field team during the second day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Thursday at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Woodley finished 24th out of 43 with a program record time of 53.53 in the opening round. This is the second-straight meet in which she has broken the program record, last doing so with a time of 53.54 to win the Western Athletic Conference Championship.

Woodley will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:20 p.m. on SEC Network+.

Junior Alexandrea Hurst finished 29th out of 48 in the shot put with a throw of 15.62 meters on her second attempt, the fourth-best in program history. That followed a 15.47-meter throw on her first attempt.

Postbaccalaureate student Idantonye Cheetham-West finished 37th out of 48 in the long jump with a leap of 5.92 meters in her second attempt. She also went 5.73 meters in her first attempt and 5.78 meters in her third attempt.

UTRGV resumes action on Friday as graduate student Paul May competes in the discus at 1:30 and junior Harry Barthelemy competes in the triple jump at 3:15.
