RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas –  The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s basketball head coach Lane Lord announced on Friday the addition of guard Tierra Trotter for the 2022-23 academic year.

Trotter joins the program after spending two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College where she earned First Team All-MACCC honors and was named to the NJCAA All-Region 23.

This past season, Trotter led her team with 16.3 points per game while recording nine 20-point performances, including a career-best 29-point performance at the MACCC Tournament. Trotter also led the team with 43 steals while finishing second with 155 rebounds, and 68 assists.

“We are extremely excited to announce the signing of Tierra Trotter,” Lord said. “Tierra is an outstanding point guard from Northwest Mississippi Community College and was an All-Conference and All-Region point guard. She will bring quickness and athleticism to our program. She is a scoring point guard but also knows how to manage the game. Tierra has a high basketball IQ and will be a welcomed addition to our program.”

As a freshman, Trotter played and started every game for Northwest as she led the team with 14.5 points per game while also grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game and dishing out 2.3 assists per game. Trotter also went on to earn All-MACCC Second Team honors that season.

Trotter, originally from Bryant, Arkansas, finished her career at Northwest with an average of 15.7 points per game, which ranks seventh most in program history.

Trotter is the daughter of Kevin Deshazer and Krystal Thornton-Deshazer and has a twin sister, Sierra, and two brothers Kevonte and Kevin. Trotter joins Zariah Sango, Charlotte O’Keefe, and Ashton McCorry as part of this year’s signing class.
