The RGV Hispanic Chambers Women’s committee is hosting their annual “Women of Distinction Awards Dinner” on Tuesday, June 30th. Women from throughout the Rio Grande Valley were taken into consideration when discussing the various categories. “There are so many rewarding women in the Valley that qualify for the award which makes it extremely hard to decide.” stated Cynthia M. Sakulenzki, RGVHCC Pres/CEO. “I’m sure that next year the committee will discover even more rewarding women.” Sakulenzki added. The evening will consist of a Social Hour from 6pm to 7pm at The Social Club located in Edinburg with the dinner and awards beginning at 7:00pm. Dr. Blandina Cardenas Flores, former UTPA President will act as the Mistress of Ceremony for the evening.
Being honored this year are: Military, Jessica Salinas, Lieutenant USN; Professional, Linda Tovar, HEB, Sr. Manager Public Affairs and Chris Rivera, CEO Rio Grande Regional Hospital; Rising Star, Sarah Hammond, Atlas Electric & A/C; Education, Janie Caballero, UTPA – Small Business Development Center, Senior Business Advisor; Humanitarian, Yolanda Barrera, Community Leader; Government, Mayor San Juanita Sanchez of San Juan; Entrepreneur, Sandy Pena, Lionel’s Western Wear and Sara Cantu, Cantu Beefmasters; Arts & Entertainment, Letty Valadez Garza, KRGV-TV5 Newscaster and Twinkling Star, Genesis Nava, student/singer.
