McAllen, TX- The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is excited to announce its first community juried photograph exhibition of 2020, Pollinators in Action: RGV Community Photographs. Photographs of pollinators including bees and butterflies from the region will be accepted through June 28 athttps://theimasonline.org/welcome/pollinators-in-action/ through an online form. Entries will be posted for public voting on fb.com/imasmuseum from June 29 to July 5, and the top selections will be printed and curated by the IMAS for an on-site exhibition from July 18 to September 27, 2020.

Pollinators in Action: RGV Community Photographs is planned by IMAS in conjunction with the new exhibition, Wild Bees, by prominent photographers Paula Sharp and Ross Eatman. Wild Bees is the culmination of the project they undertook in 2015 – 2018 to document native bee species for New York’s Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

In September of 2018, Sharp and Eatman commenced a new project at the National Butterfly Center of Hidalgo County, Texas, documenting native bee species inhabiting the unique ecosystems of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. In January 2019, Sharp & Eatman launched Wild Bees of the National Butterfly Center, a website dedicated to LRGV bees.

After learning of their wonderful work, the IMAS not only chose to host their exhibition through October 18, 2020, but also to encourage documenting the local biodiversity of the region through the arts. The IMAS aims to engage the community in this process through Pollinators in Action. Furthermore, the IMAS will also curate an online exhibition space for all entries.
