PHARR, Texas– The Food Bank RGV is urging WIC clients to sign up for the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). This program distributes $30 vouchers for each family member enrolled in the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program. The program began on March 19, 2022.
The first come, first serve vouchers are available at the McAllen Farmers Market located outside the McAllen Public Library, 4001 N 23rd St., which takes place every Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
To participate, WIC recipients must take their shopping list to the McAllen Farmers Market and look for the FMNP information table. After receiving vouchers, program participants will be able to shop and use their vouchers for fresh and nutritious produce with participating vendors at the McAllen Farmers Market.
This Texas Department of Agriculture program helps low-income families broaden their selection of healthy foods and exposes them to organic foods that they otherwise would not have known were available.
