The grand opening in Weslaco comes three months after Chick-fil-A opened its newest restaurant in Brownsville. It was 44 years ago that Chick-fil-A opened its first Texas location inside La Palerma Mall in Corpus Christi in 1970. The chain continued expanding in mall locations before opening its first stand-alone restaurant in the state in 1993 in Grapevine. The new Weslaco location is one of 88 new restaurants the chain plans to open across the country in 2014, creating more than 6,600 new jobs. It’s projected that more than 25 percent of Chick-fil-A’s 2014 restaurant expansion growth will occur in Texas. This year’s openings will take the total in the state to more than 300 locations, the most Chick-fil-A restaurants in any state. Chick-fil-A continued to grow in 2013, increasing the number of new restaurants initially planned for the year and reporting record-setting annual sales of more than $5 billion, the 47th consecutive year of sales growth since the company began in 1967.
As the operator/Owner of the new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Weslaco, Toni Marbar is relocating from the chain’s restaurant in Sunrise Mall in Brownsville, which she has operated for three years. Born and raised in Mexico City, Marbar became attached to the brand when she moved state-side after college. After working for the company for nearly ten years, she is proud to open up her first free standing restaurant. Marbar looks forward to serving and meeting the community of Weslaco.
“Personalized customer service and freshly prepared food have been the hallmarks of Chick-fil-A since the day Truett opened his first restaurant,” said Marbar. “My team members and I are committed to those same ideals as we welcome our guests to our new Weslaco restaurant and provide them with a remarkable experience.”
