WESLACO, Texas – The Weslaco Economic Development Corporation (EDC), in partnership with Canacintra—Mexico’s National Chamber of the Transformation Industry—will host the inaugural Weslaco Abre sus Puertas: Foro y Recorrido de Inversión Binacional, an investment forum designed to strengthen economic ties between South Texas and Northern Mexico.
Taking place on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Business Visitor and Event Center in Weslaco, the event will bring together Mexican industrial leaders and U.S. stakeholders to explore opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, and cross-border expansion.
“The strength of Weslaco’s economy lies in collaboration—between our business community, our regional partners, and our neighbors in Mexico,” said Sandra Charlton, President of the Weslaco EDC Board of Directors. “This forum is a milestone in our efforts to attract quality investment and highlight Weslaco and the Mid-Valley region as a hub for industry and innovation.”
Weslaco Abre sus Puertas reflects a shared vision to create a binational industrial ecosystem linking the Rio Grande Valley and Tamaulipas. Together, Weslaco and Río Bravo form a strategic development zone that promotes collaboration, efficiency, and long-term growth.
As a central hub in South Texas’ industrial corridor, Weslaco EDC plays a key role by owning and marketing prime industrial land. Several shovel-ready sites will be showcased during the forum, highlighting Weslaco’s centralized location in the region, infrastructure, workforce, and logistics advantages for expanding companies.
“Weslaco’s location as a central hub in Rio Grande Valley positions us as a strategic bridge for investment between Mexico and the United States,” said Steven Valdez, Executive Director of Weslaco EDC. “Through this partnership with Canacintra, we are opening the door for more companies to expand, create jobs, and strengthen the manufacturing and logistics corridor for our border’s common interest.”
Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez will open the forum, welcoming guests and highlighting the city’s commitment to international partnership. Representatives from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) will present their Soft-Landing Program, which helps international companies establish operations in the United States.
Weslaco EDC will share updates on industrial properties and new development initiatives, while representatives from Progreso and Donna International Bridges will discuss how cross-border infrastructure drives trade and connects companies to global supply chains.
A legal session reviewing immigration and business, led by attorney Paola R. Guerrero from Jones, Galligan, Key, and Lozano Law Firm, will guide participants through U.S. visa and investment regulations, addressing one of the key concerns for Mexican investors.
The day will conclude with an investor spotlight featuring Jorge De La Garza of ZIWA Corporation, a repeat investor in the warehouse sector, who will share insights on construction warehousing, leasing options, and strategies for sustainable industrial development in South Texas. Among the event’s featured speakers is Joaquin Spamer, a Rio Grande Valley business leader and CEO of Commodities Integrated Logistics (CIL), proficient in cross border relations and author/co-founder of RIOPLEX.
“Our collaboration with Weslaco EDC reflects Canacintra’s commitment to helping Mexican industry reach new markets and opportunities in the United States,” said [Julio RodrÍguez Trigueros], Vice President of International Affairs, Canacintra. “Weslaco offers a welcoming platform for investment, with infrastructure and a genuine spirit of partnership.”
Weslaco Abre sus Puertas marks a defining step in fostering sustainable, cross-broder growth. By aligning the ambitions of Mexican industry with South Texas’ readiness, the event sets the stage for long-term prosperity rooted in partnership and shared opportunity.
With initiatives like this, Weslaco EDC is not only opening doors—it’s building enduring connections that unite communities, industries, and futures across borders.
