Weslaco Chamber to host mayoral candidate forum October 8

The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce held a candidates forum in June for City Commission District 4 (pictured). The next Candidates Forum for the November mayoral race will be held on Tuesday, October 8 at the Business Visitor & Event Center.

The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates’ forum for the upcoming City elections that will take place on Tuesday, November 5.  The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Weslaco Business Visitor and Event Center, located at 275 S. Kansas. The forum will be moderated by John Greider of AIM Media, and will be recorded and live streamed by KWES.

This year, early voting begins on October 21 and runs through November 1.  Weslaco City Commission Districts 5 and 6 are up for reelection. However, both incumbents – Letty Lopez and Joshua Pedraza – will run unopposed. The mayoral race will have two candidates vying for the position – Incumbent David Suarez and Alfredo Castañeda, Jr. 

Candidates will be given two minutes to introduce themselves and one minute to answer questions.  Candidates will also have an opportunity to give a closing statement.
