The Weslaco Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a candidates’ forum for the upcoming City and Weslaco ISD elections that will take place on Tuesday, November 8. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Weslaco Business Visitor and Event Center. The forum will be moderated by the Mid Valley Town Crier. Community and chamber members are encouraged to participate in the forum beforehand by submitting possible candidate questions to the Weslaco Chamber at chamber@weslaco.com.
This year, early voting begins on October 24 and runs through November 4. The Weslaco City Commission now has two seats that will go up for election. The candidates include: Incumbent Letty Lopez and Lupe Rivera, Jr. for District 5; Incumbent Fidel Pena and Joshua Pedraza for District 6. Incumbent Mayor David Suarez will run unopposed. Weslaco ISD has three seats up for election and the candidates are as follows: Incumbent Erasmo Lopez, Roy Ramirez-Kello and Javi Herrera for Place 1; Incumbent Felix Guajardo, Patrick Kennedy and Edelmiro Davila for Place 3. Incumbent Place 2 Trustee Dr. Richard Rivera will run unopposed.
Candidates will be given two minutes to introduce themselves and one minute to answer questions formulated by chamber members. Candidates will also have an opportunity to give a closing statement.
