The Weslaco Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for Leadership Mid Valley Class XIV to begin in late September 2018. Sponsored by the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Mid Valley is an eight-month program which seeks to identify and motivate emerging leaders and develop their potential for community leadership by exposing them to the realities, opportunities, and problems of the community.
Leadership classes begin in September and conclude in May. Participants meet once a month for tours, seminars and hands-on learning experiences. Session topics include government, healthcare, education, media and other important community issues. Leadership Mid-Valley brings together top-level business, civic, and government leaders for an open conversation on the future of Weslaco and surrounding areas. Every class is assigned a project and fundraiser that must be completed before the graduation date. In addition, the Leadership class and alumni take a trip to the State Capitol where they have the opportunity to meet with various state officials, legislators, and lobbyists.
Sessions are planned and scheduled by the Leadership Steering Committee, which meets once a month to plan out and schedule each session. The committee is comprised of Leadership alumni who serve a two-year term. This year’s committee chair is Elizabeth Walker, Leadership Mid Valley Class XI.
