PHARR, Aug 9, 2017 – Wells Fargo & Company announced today a $5,000 donation to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is passionately committed to improving lives through food assistance, nutrition education, and access to community services. The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, Inc. serves Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron Counties in the southern tip of Texas.
The funds donated by Wells Fargo will serve to support the organization’s mission as well as their largest annual fundraising event, Empty Bowls. This premier fundraiser boasts over 800 guests and food from 45 of the best restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley. At the event, guests choose a hand-painted one of a kind ceramic bowl painted by artists and volunteers, including Wells Fargo team member volunteers who painted bowls in preparation to this event earlier this year. The ceramic bowl serves as a reminder that there are still many “empty bowls” in the community that need help being filled.
“At Wells Fargo we are deeply committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. We donate to a wide range of nonprofits as a way to help address some of the social, economic, and environmental challenges our communities face,” said Yolanda Gonzalez, district manager for Wells Fargo in Laredo and Upper RGV “At the local level, we focus our philanthropic activities on creating long-term, strategic relationships with nonprofits and other organizations to create innovative, sustainable solutions to meet local needs. We couldn’t be prouder to be making an impact right here in the heart of the RGV by contributing to the fight against hunger through this great organization.”
“The Food Bank RGV is excited to partner with Wells Fargo for Empty Bowls 2017,” said Food Bank RGV interim-CEO & COO,  DeAnne Economedes. “Wells Fargo has been a long-time supporter of the Food Bank RGV and is deeply committed to fighting hunger in our community.”
