PHARR – Retired Army Ranger and Water Rescue Foundation Founder Moses West will be visiting PSJA ISD on Tuesday, Feb. 25 to speak to students about the global water crisis, as well as demonstrate the water generator he created, which aims to provide clean drinking water to those in need.
The innovative atmospheric water generator essentially acts as a harvesting machine that works to extract moisture from the atmosphere to turn it into freshwater. His machine has been used to provide clean drinking water in Flint, Michigan, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.
During his visit to the district, he will speak to students from at least five elementary campuses, as well as students in the environmental clubs from several PSJA ISD high schools. West will also discuss several of the Sustainable Development Goals, which were set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 and are widely taught across PSJA ISD as part of the TEKS.
“We organized this visit because we don’t want students to just learn about innovative sustainability, in theory, we want them to see it in action and practice biomimicry by applying it through a 21-century mindset,” said PSJA Buell Central DAEP Principal Mario Bracamontes, who also organized West’s visit.
West will be at the PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School courtyard on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 10:00 am.
