RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team learned on Tuesday that junior forward Reshaun Walkes is part of the Preseason All-WAC Team, as voted on by the WAC head coaches.
Additionally, UTRGV was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
During the 2021 spring season, Walkes played and started in eight matches and was second on the team in goals (5), points (10), shots (17), and shots on goal (8). Walkes finished the spring third in the WAC in goals and seventh in points as he earned All-WAC Second Team honors.
UTRGV finished with 86 points in the poll and was picked ahead of California Baptist, UNLV, Utah Valley, Incarnate Word, Dixie State, Houston Baptist, and Chicago State in the poll.
Grand Canyon was picked to finish first in the WAC with 110 total points and six first place votes. Seattle U was picked to finish second with four first place votes and 108 points while San Jose State was picked third with two first place votes and 94 points. Air Force was picked fourth with 89 points.
The Vaqueros will be in action on Saturday in an exhibition match against St. Mary’s at the Brownsville Sports Park at 6 p.m. Admission is complimentary with gates opening at 5 p.m.
The Vaqueros will get the regular season started on Aug. 26 at Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.
