Waitz Elementary students selected their favorite nominee of the Texas Bluebonnet Award on Tuesday, January 28th. Students that read five or more of the books were invited to attend the Bluebonnet Voting Party to cast their vote. Not only did they vote for their favorite book but they also had an opportunity to share with the other students the reasons for their selection.

“There is a total of 20 nominees up for the Bluebonnet Award. The students had to read five or more to vote and kids throughout the state of Texas get to do this,” states Elizabeth Tanguma, Waitz Elementary Librarian.

Every year more than 100,000 students from 3rd to 6th grade from a generated list, vote on their favorite book in January. The winner is then announced in February and presented with the Texas Bluebonnet Award at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference. The annual conference will be in San Antonio in April.
