Volleyball Adds Sydney Schoen for 2022

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Volleyball Head Coach Todd Lowery announced on Tuesday the addition of libero Sydney Schoen to the roster for the 2022 season. 

Schoen played the last four seasons at Eastern Kentucky where she played in 88 career matches and recorded 937 career digs with 133 assists and 55 service aces. 

Last season, Schoen played in all 31 matches and led her team with 496 digs while also ranking second in the ASUN conference in total digs and fifth in digs per set (4.07). Schoen finished with a team-best 28 aces, which ranked her 13th in the ASUN, and finished with 72 assists.

During the 2020-21 COVID-19 shortened season, Schoen played in all 16 matches and led the team with 241 digs and seven aces. Schoen posted 14 double-digit matches, including a career-high 29 digs in a win over UT Martin. 

As a sophomore, Schoen played in 21 matches and recorded six matches of double-digit digs while finishing fifth on the team with 146 digs. 

Schoen made her debut with Eastern Kentucky in 2018 where she played in 26 of the team’s 28 matches. Schoen led the team with 15 aces and posted 142 digs with 20 assists. 

“Sydney has grown a lot as a player at Eastern Kentucky,” Lowery said. “She has proven herself both as a great defender and passer but also has been a proven leader both on the indoor and outdoor teams. She will add experience and depth to our libero position. We are super excited for Sydney to join us in the fall.”
