The City of McAllen, in cooperation with TxDOT, will hold a public meeting to present and gather input on proposed improvements to Nolana Avenue between FM 2220 (Ware Road) and FM 1926 (23rd Street). The project aims to widen and upgrade the roadway to better meet the mobility and safety needs of the community.
The proposed upgrades to Nolana Avenue reflect a shared commitment by the City of McAllen and TxDOT to improve mobility, safety, and community connectivity. By widening the roadway and including pedestrian and shared-use paths, the project supports current and future traffic volumes, enhances safety for vehicles and non-motorized users, and positions Nolana Avenue to better accommodate growth in the region. Public feedback is a critical part of the project development process. Residents, commuters, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the plans and submit their input.

This proposal would widen the existing roadway by 14.5 feet on each side, transforming Nolana Avenue into a six-lane urban facility. The design envisions:
Six — 12-foot-wide travel lanes
One — 14-foot-wide concrete raised median
One — 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side
One — 10-foot-wide shared-use path on the north side
All within the existing 120-foot right-of-way (ROW) — no new ROW or property easements required.
The total project length under consideration is approximately one mile.
The public meeting will be offered both virtually and in person, in English and Spanish as noted above. Both meetings are designed to ensure community members have access to all project information, can view project plans, and ask questions directly to project staff.
