A new $40 million school campus is planned in Mission as Vanguard Academy moves forward with a major expansion project, according to information provided by Teclo Garcia, chief executive officer of the Mission Economic Development Corporation.
The planned Monet campus will span approximately 100,000 square feet and is part of a larger effort to expand educational infrastructure across Hidalgo County. The development will be built on a 20-acre site located along North Stewart Road near Mile 2 Road.

Garcia stated that Phase I of the project will serve students from Pre-K through 8th grade and will include key facilities such as a gymnasium, cafeteria, sports fields, and fine arts classrooms. The campus design also incorporates extended vehicle lanes to manage student pickup and drop-off.
Plans for Phase II include adding a high school wing, enabling the campus to expand into a full secondary education facility.
According to Garcia, the project also includes infrastructure commitments by Vanguard Academy. These include fencing the campus, constructing off-site sidewalks, and contributing to improvements at the intersection of Mile 2 and Stewart Road.
Construction on the first phase is already underway, and the campus is expected to open to students in fall 2027. Garcia indicated that the development is part of a master plan to strengthen educational capacity in the region while supporting local growth.
