McALLEN, Texas – The Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) is pleased to announce that the 2026 VAMOS Scholarship Application officially opened on Monday, December 1. Graduating high school seniors from the Rio Grande Valley who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply.
For nearly 30 years, VAMOS has been committed to empowering low-income students by providing four-year renewable scholarships and comprehensive support throughout their college journey. Since its founding in 1996, VAMOS has awarded more than $26 million in scholarships to over 1,400 students across Hidalgo, Starr, and Cameron counties.
“Opening our annual scholarship application is always an exciting moment,” said Mary de León, Executive Director for VAMOS. “Each year, we meet exceptional students who are ready to take the next step in their educational journey but lack the financial means to do so. Through the generous support of our donors, we are able to open doors to educational opportunities and change lives.”
In addition to financial support, VAMOS Scholars benefit from mentorship, workshops in financial literacy, leadership, internship and career planning, and personalized student success services to help ensure timely graduation.
Eligible students may apply for the following scholarships:
