RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s tennis team fell 1-6 to the Tarleton State Texans on Sunday in a non-conference matchup at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Freshman Isabelle Bahr and redshirt freshman Valeria Montero led the Vaqueros (0-2) in doubles as the duo picked up a 6-3 victory over Mihaela Codreanu and Jemi Aguilar on court one but it was the Texans (2-3) who came away with the 1-0 after winning on courts two and three.
Bahr gave UTRGV its lone point of the match as she went three sets with Codreanu on court one. Bahr picked up the 6-2 win in the first set before falling 6-7 in the second. In the third, Bahr took control early on and won 6-1 for her second straight win.
Tarleton State won on courts three, two, six, four, and five to clinch the win.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when it faces Stephen F. Austin in a neutral site match in San Marcos at 11 a.m.
