Texas Border Business
SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s tennis team fell 1-6 to the Stephen F. Austin University (SFA) on Saturday in a neutral site match at Texas State’s Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Stephen F. Austin jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles matches at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
In singles, the Vaqueros got their lone point at the No. 6 spot where redshirt sophomore Sandra Putz defeated Ai Noa Fabre in three sets. Putz took the first set 7-5 before falling 0-6 in the second. The tiebreaker was a tight one but Putz pulled out the 10-8 victory for her first singles victory of the season.
Stephen F. Austin won the other five singles matches to clinch the win.
UTRGV will be back in action tomorrow when it faces Texas State at 10 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
