RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Volleyball Head Coach Todd Lowery announced on Friday the addition of 6-3 redshirt sophomore right side hitter Maria Eduarda Rodrigues for the 2021 season.
Rodrigues comes to UTRGV from Odessa College, where as a sophomore, she earned All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) honors while leading Odessa to the No. 2 overall seed in the NJCAA Tournament. For the season, Rodrigues averaged 2.09 kills on .294 hitting with 0.82 blocks in 95 sets across 28 matches.
As a freshman, Rodrigues averaged 1.94 kills on .248 hitting, 0.84 digs and 0.57 blocks in 108 sets across 34 matches. She earned NJCAA All-Academic Third Team and WJCAC All-Academic First Team honors.
“Duda is going to give us some length on the pin,” Lowery said. “She is capable of playing both the right and left side and is a great blocker. I feel like she still has a huge upside as she gets stronger. Her growth this year shows how dedicated she is to improving and being the best version of herself.”
Rodrigues joins 5-7 freshman libero Luanna Emiliano, 6-0 freshman outside hitter Ingridy Foltran, 5-8 freshman outside hitter Perris Key, and 5-1 freshman libero Evana Ramos as part of the 2021 recruiting class.
