RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics learned on Tuesday that the volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award by posting a 3.60-grade point average (GPA) during the 2019-20 academic year.
This includes a 3.42 GPA in the fall and a 3.80 GPA in the spring.
The award honors men’s and women’s collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the academic year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.
UTRGV was one of 222 NCAA Division I women’s indoor programs, including six in the Western Athletic Conference, three in the UT system, and 14 in Texas, to earn the honor. In total, a record 1,313 programs were recognized at all levels nationwide.
