UTRGV Track & Field wraps up Valentine Invitational

BOSTON – Sophomore Abraham Chirchir completed the sixth-fastest 5,000-meter run in program history as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field team wrapped up Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday at the Track & Tennis Center.

Chirchir finished in a time of 14:52.15, the fourth-best of his career.

Senior La Joya alum Ricardo Mendoza led the way in the mile run, finishing in 4:18.46, the third-best time of his career. Senior Omer Almog was right behind with a season-best time of 4:19.28 as both runners finished in the top half out of 342 competitors.

Almog also recorded a season-best 3,000-meter time of 8:46.93.

UTRGV is scheduled to return to action on Feb. 22 at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight.
