NAMPA, Ida. – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday the indoor track & field coaches polls, with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s team and women’s teams getting picked third in advance of Friday and Saturday’s WAC Championships.
A year after finishing in second place at the WAC Indoor Championships, the UTRGV men earned 17 points in the pre-championships poll. Grand Canyon and Utah Valley were picked to tie for first with three first place votes and 23 points each. Kansas City was picked fourth with 13 points. Chicago State and Seattle U were picked fifth and sixth with eight and six points, respectively.
A year after finishing in fourth place at the WAC Indoor Championships, the UTRGV women earned 35 points in the pre-championships poll. Grand Canyon was picked to win the team title with five first place votes and 47 points. New Mexico State received the other three first place votes, finishing with 45 points. Utah Valley was picked fourth with 33 points. Kansas City was picked fifth with 25 points. Seattle U was picked sixth with 17 points. Chicago State and CSU Bakersfield tied for seventh with 11 points each.
The WAC Championships get underway on Friday at 10 a.m. with the pentathlon and 10:15 with the heptathlon. Field events start at 3:30 p.m. with track events to follow at 4.
