RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Monday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s tennis team is an ITA All-Academic Team and that five of its student-athletes are ITA Scholar Athletes.
UTRGV earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by maintaining a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2. UTRGV currently sports a 3.49 cumulative GPA.
Alberto Mello, Carlo Izurieta, Zane Kohrs, Jason Loyd and Michael Loyd all earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors by record GPA’s of at least 3.5 during the 2019-20 academic year.
UTRGV is one of four teams in the UT System, 12 in Texas and five in the WAC to earn the honor.
Nationally, 979 Division I men’s tennis student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and 186 men’s tennis programs were awarded with All-Academic Team distinction.
