CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s golf team moved up another two spots in the standings to finish in ninth place at the Cowboy Classic on Tuesday at Whirlwind Golf Club.
UTRGV turned in a final round 288 to finish with a three-round score of 267 to finish just two shots back of Stephen F. Austin for eighth place and four shots back of UC Davis for seventh place.
Junior Henry Fisher posted the team’s best finish as he came in tied for 20thwith a three-round score of 213 after a final round one-over par 73. Senior Alvaro Hernandez finished a shot behind Fisher with a three-round score of 214 after posting a one-under-par 71 to finish tied for 25th.
Senior Pedro Lamadrid finished tied for 30th with a three-round score of 215 after carding a final round one-over par 73. Junior Luca Portelli posted a final round one-under-par 71 to finish tied for 90thwith a three-round score of 226 and redshirt sophomore Alex Summers finished tied for 94thwith a three-round score of 227 after turning in a final round one-over par 73.
UCLA won the team title with a three-round score of 841 after posting a final round 288. UCLA’s Cole Madey and Wyoming’s John Murdock finished tied for first but Madey took home the individual title after winning in a playoff.
UTRGV will be back in action at the Western Athletic Conference Championship from April 27-29 at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Washington.
