EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s golf team announced on Thursday the addition of La Feria High School senior Andres Cortez to the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.
“I think Andy has the work ethic and values to seamlessly move into the team,” UTRGV head coach Philip Tate said. “He’s won a lot in high school and is going to want to continue to do the same here at UTRGV.”
Cortez is a four-year letterman at La Feria High School where he won 22 high school tournaments including two 32-4A District Championships as a junior and senior.
He is a two-time 32-4A District MVP, a four-time First Team All-District honoree, a four-time regional qualifier, a two-time regional medalist, and a two-time state qualifier.
Cortez finished his high school career with the school record for the lowest single round score of 67 that he posted at the Donna Boys Invitational.
Cortez joins Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi and Adam Arif Madzri as part of this year’s signing class.
