Rio Grande Valley, TEXAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Men’s Basketball Head Coach Lew Hill announced on Wednesday the addition of 6-6, 215-pound forward Malik Lawrence-Anderson, a transfer from Tyler Junior College, for the 2020-21 academic year.

Lawrence-Anderson is off to a good start this season, scoring six points with eight rebounds, one block and one steal against Brookhaven on Nov. 7.

As a freshman last season, Lawrence-Anderson averaged 4.5 points on .447 (34-for-76) shooting, including .424 (25-for-59) from behind the arc, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists to help Tyler to a 23-7 record. His playing time was limited due to injury.

Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Lawrence-Anderson played one season at Schoolhouse Preparatory in Miami, Fla. after graduating from Christ the King High School in Queens, N.Y.

“Malik brings toughness, which is something we need,” Hill said. “He’s a really great athlete and will remind people of P.J. Tucker because he can play multiple positions and is a good defender. He shoots the ball really well and rebounds the ball out of this world.”
