Rio Grande Valley, Texas – The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees today announced it has removed The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley from probationary status.

UTRGV was notified Feb. 5, 2018, that it would remain on probation pending a SACSCOC review of the Statewide Single Audit for FY 2017 conducted by the Texas State Auditor’s Office.

Today’s SACSCOC Board of Trustees decision to remove UTRGV from probationary status is based on the university successfully addressing that lone concern.

“We are pleased with the decision, and this news is a reflection of the hard work of our dedicated staff,” said UTRGV President Guy Bailey. “We have made significant progress this year, and I look forward to continuing this momentum in 2019.”

UTRGV remained accredited throughout its probationary period, meaning that students and faculty were not at risk; federal and state funding and student financial aid were not threatened; research grants and eligibility for additional grants were not threatened; and the quality of degrees granted in the past and in the future was not affected.

The comprehensive academic institution enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
