UTRGV Cross Country Teams Picked to Finish Third and Sixth at WAC Championship

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday the cross country coaches polls, with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s team picked to finish third and the women picked to finish sixth at Saturday’s WAC Championships.

The UTRGV men, the No. 9 ranked team in the South Central Region, earned 30 points, behind only Utah Valley, the No. 11 ranked team in the Mountain Region, which garnered 47 points and five first place votes, and California Baptist, the No. 8 ranked team in the West Region, which received 45 points and three first place votes.

UTRGV was picked to finish third last year as well but came in second, the best finish in program history.

The UTRGV women, the No. 8 ranked team in the South Central Region, earned 30 points, behind California Baptist, the No. 5 ranked team in the West Region, which garnered 61 points and six first place votes, Utah Valley, the No. 12 ranked team in the Mountain Region, which received 59 points and the remaining three first place votes, Grand Canyon, the No. 15 ranked team in the West Region, which earned 46 points, New Mexico State, which received 40 points, and Kansas City, which collected 32 points.

The WAC Championships, hosted by Kansas City, get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men’s 8K followed by the women’s 6K at 11.
