Rio Grande Valley, Texas – Hazel H. Dadanlar, a fourth-year management doctoral candidate in the UTRGV Business Administration Ph.D. Program at the Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship has been selected for the prestigious Jess Hay Endowment for Chancellor’s Graduate Student Research Fellowship, awarded by The University of Texas System.

Dadanlar joined the UTRGV Business Ph.D. Program in fall 2015, and since then has successfully passed her comprehensive exam and currently is working on her dissertation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA, Beta Gamma Sigma) from The University of Texas-Pan American.

Upon receiving her MBA, she worked for the New York Community Bank as a financial services associate for a year, while volunteering as a certified tax preparer for the City of Phoenix, Arizona, assisting disadvantaged, low-income and senior citizens.

In her research, she explores the drivers and implications of persistent gender disparity at senior corporate leadership positions (referred to as the “glass ceiling”), and is studying the various causes and consequences leading to this disparity.

She has co-authored a peer-reviewed journal article, has several papers under revision in academic journals, and has presented her research at top academic conferences, such as the Academy of Management and Southern Management Association.

Her accolades include Research Excellence and Outstanding Ph.D. Student awards from UTRGV’s Department of Management and the Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship in 2017. She also received the Best Doctoral Student Paper Award at the 2017 annual meeting of the Southern Management Association in the Careers/Social Issues/Diversity/Ethics Track.

The fellowship was established by former UT System Regent Jess Hay, and is designed to “tie graduate education to timely and high-quality research benefiting the State of Texas.” Two $10,000 awards are made annually to eligible UT System institutions.
