RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday a partnership with Entravision Communications to air a weekly coaches show on Q 94.5 The Rock Station starting on Jan. 7. Additionally, Q 94.5 will air select men’s and women’s basketball games in 2020.
The coaches show will be broadcast live every Tuesday at 7 p.m. through April 28 at Buffalo Wings & Rings at 1933 S. 10th St. in McAllen. Fans are invited to attend the show in-person and interact with UTRGV staff and coaches, including men’s basketball head coach Lew Hill, women’s basketball head coach Lane Lord and baseball head coach Derek Matlock.
All radio broadcasts can be heard both on the radio at 94.5 FM and online at Q945TheRock.com. Additionally, all games can be seen online through the WAC Digital Network with the exception of the Jan. 30 men’s basketball game, which will be on ESPN+.
The broadcasts feature a group of familiar voices, as Jonah Goldberg and Bryan Smith handle the game broadcasts and Tony Forina hosts the coach’s shows.
Goldberg is in his 10th season as the play-by-play broadcaster of the Valley’s Division I basketball teams. Smith is in his fourth season as the color commentator.
Forina returns as the host of the coaches show after previously hosting coaches shows on the radio for legacy institution UTPA from 2004-05 through 2006-07. Forina is also the long-time primary public address announcer at UTRGV athletic events.
