South Padre Island, TX – February 15, 2025 – US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 7-2 proudly participated in the State of Texas’ annual General Land Office (GLO) Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship and community service.
Flotilla 7-2, in partnership with Bayside Marine, Inc. of Port Isabel, TX, local Valley high schools, and dedicated volunteers, worked diligently to ensure that South Padre Island remains the Jewel of the Texas Coast. Volunteers gathered at Access #6, Edwin King Atwood County Park (27159 State Park Road 100, SPI) from 8:30 to 10:30 AM, where they cleaned a stretch of beach and dunes, removing litter and debris to protect marine life and maintain the island’s pristine beauty.
This initiative aligns with the U.S. Coast Guard’s “Sea Partners Program”, which educates the public about marine environmental protection. While participating in the cleanup, Flotilla 7-2 members also engaged with students, sharing insights into the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s mission and inspiring the next generation of environmental and maritime safety advocates.
Vice Flotilla Commander Jamey Ryan emphasized the importance of the event, stating:
“Keeping our coastline clean is not just about aesthetics—it’s about protecting marine ecosystems, ensuring public safety, and fostering community pride. We are honored to play a role in preserving the beauty of South Padre Island.”
Ryan also highlighted the educational aspect of the cleanup, adding:
“Engaging with students and volunteers about environmental conservation and the mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is a key part of what we do. Events like this show that small efforts, when done collectively, create a lasting impact.”
Flotilla 7-2 remains committed to community outreach, environmental education, and public safety. Events like the Texas GLO Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup serve as a reminder that service and stewardship go hand in hand.
