PROGRESSO, Texas – A U.S. Border Patrol agent assisted in the evacuation of 11 people, including six children, from a residential fire in the early morning hours of June 2, 2025.
At approximately 3:55 a.m., an agent assigned to the Weslaco Border Station discovered a house fire with flames engulfing the back portion of the residence in the Progreso Lakes neighborhood in Progreso, Texas. The agent contacted emergency services and requested dispatch of the Progreso Fire Department before taking action to alert the residents.
Upon arrival at the scene, the agent found that the residents were unaware of the fire. He entered the home to alert those inside and began evacuating all 11 residents.
Emergency medical service personnel arrived on scene to provide medical treatment. Additional Border Patrol agents and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department deputies provided support while the Progreso Fire Department successfully contained the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local authorities.
