The American Red Cross of the Texas Gulf Coast Region has an urgent need for volunteers. In the face of more frequent and intense natural disasters, we are facing continuous, often concurrent, disaster responses. We saw firsthand the large-scale sheltering needs during recent responses in Texas and that’s why we’re inviting compassionate community members to join our shelter hero’s roster.

Shelter heroes will respond at least once a year to disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. Local heroes will be trained to support emergency shelters and other basics in their communities and help bolster our existing nationwide volunteer network. Our team can provide more information and visuals to help your audience join this true community response to a growing need.

This work and more is made possible by volunteers — who comprise 90% of the Red Cross workforce — and generous donors who provide them with the resources to help people in need. Since, July 1, 2024, the Texas Gulf Coast region of the American Red Cross:

• Responded to over 1,400 disasters across the region: more than 1,000 of them being home fire disasters.

• Helping over 2,000 families with Red Cross emergency assistance through disasters.
