A new Nordstrom Rack store is moving forward in the McAllen area, according to official records filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
State permit documents show that a project listed as “Nordstrom Rack at Las Tiendas Shopping Center” has been registered under project number TABS2026008855. The filing describes the work as a private retail renovation with an estimated construction cost of $3.6 million and a total area of 30,561 square feet.
The permit states that construction is scheduled to begin on May 7, 2026, with an estimated completion date of December 7, 2026. The work is classified as an interior alteration intended to convert existing space into a Nordstrom Rack retail store.
According to the filing, the project is located at 700 East Expressway 83 within the Las Tiendas Shopping Center. The scope of work is described in the permit as a tenant improvement for a retail clothing store, including sales areas, stock rooms, and related back-of-house space.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation record lists the project as privately funded and built on private land for private use. The permit also identifies Arcadis, Inc. as the design firm responsible for the project and names a registered accessibility specialist assigned to ensure compliance with state accessibility standards.
Nordstrom Rack has issued no official press release announcing the store. However, the state filing provides the most explicit public confirmation to date that the off-price retailer is preparing to open a location in the Rio Grande Valley market.
Nordstrom Rack is the off-price division of Nordstrom, offering discounted apparel, footwear, and accessories from a wide range of brands. The planned store size listed in the permit aligns with the typical footprint of Nordstrom Rack locations nationwide.
As of now, the TDLR permit does not list an official opening date beyond the projected construction completion in December 2026. Any changes to the project timeline or scope would be reflected through updated state filings.
